Turmeric juice shots are all the rage, but they can really put a dent in the wallet. The average 2 oz turmeric shot can range from $3-7.  So why are these mighty yet pricey “health” shots so popular?

Turmeric is well known to be one of the most potent anti-inflammatory herbs due to one of its constituents, curcumin.  Inflammation is connected to several health conditions including but not limited to, heart disease, cancer, memory impairment, arthritis and other age-related diseases.  Pairing black pepper with turmeric helps to make the curcumin more bioavailable in the body.  In fact, adding piperine (in black pepper) to turmeric can increase absorption by up to 2,000%.

Another trick to making turmeric more bioavailable is to add fat. Consider taking your turmeric shots with breakfast that includes a slice or two of avocado or other healthy fat.  It also makes a great addition to smoothies.  I love it in my Mango-Pineapple smoothie.

To save time and money, I like to make turmeric shots in large batches. I separate the finished juice into reused mason jars and store in the freezer.  I typically use one 8 ounce jar within 7 days. To  ensure I am ready for the following week, I will take one mason jar from the freezer and place it in the refrigerator to thaw overnight.

By now you can see why turmeric juice shots are my go-to anti-inflammatory, anti-aging potions.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.  Cheers!
