Barbecue is classic in America and everyone has their style. Cities, regions make claim to having the "best", and competitions are abundant. Some like it sweet, some like it spicy, some go for the most smoky, others like a fruitier sauce, but one thing they all have in common: they are a killer on the gut for people dealing with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). They tend to be full of onion, garlic, and abundance of tomato pastes and chiles.
I've been perfecting my own low-FODMAP Barbecue sauce for several years and this recipe is my final product. If you live somewhere that Fody products are available, then you are lucky! Fody specializes in low-FODMAP foods and condiments and make it very convenient when you can't stand to bear a minute in the kitchen (even I have those days)! But, I personally find their sauces to be too sweet and tomato-y, basically a little bland. I'm here to prove you can have delicious meals that everyone will devour, even those of us who need to be low-FODMAP most of the time. Try this easy recipe for Barbecue Sauce, low-FODMAP in under 30 minutes, freeze half and your effort will give back for up to 6 months of saucy pleasure.
There are of course numerous ways to use Barbecue Sauce, low-FODMAP, but one of my favorites is as a marinade and then topping for baked tofu in a BBQ Bowl with Vegan Mac and Cheese. It's also great as a Jackfruit sauce for Sloppy Jack's, on any grilled or griddled veggie burger, with tempeh, with chickpeas...you tell me!
